2025 Democrats for Change Assembly Candidates in Hudson County Earn Good Government Coalition of New Jersey Endorsement
Hudson County, NJ — The Good Government Coalition of New Jersey (GGCNJ) has endorsed three “Democrats for Change” candidates for the New Jersey General Assembly in Hudson County: Assemblywoman Barbara McCann Stamato in Legislative District 31, and Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez and Councilman Yousef J. Saleh in Legislative District 32.
GGCNJ, a respected nonpartisan organization that advocates for transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership in public office, cited the candidates’ strong reform records in announcing their support. The group also endorsed Steven Fulop for Governor, applauding his vision for modern, open, and responsive government in New Jersey.
Assemblywoman Barbara McCann Stamato, a longtime public servant and champion for open government, was one of the few Democrats in Trenton to vote against the rollback of New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act (OPRA). She also joined Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez in opposing the ballot reform bill, which has drawn broad criticism for limiting voter choice and transparency in the electoral process.
“Voters deserve transparent leadership that puts the public’s right to know above political convenience,” said Assemblywoman Barbara McCann Stamato. “I’m proud to have stood strong against weakening OPRA and ballot reforms that reduce transparency. This endorsement from GGCNJ reflects our shared belief that government must be open, accountable, and driven by the needs of our communities.”
Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez, who previously served as a contract attorney with the Office of the Public Defender, now works as an attorney specializing in representing victims of sexual assault. She echoed her running mate’s commitment to transparency.
“Every New Jerseyan should have a government that works for them — not behind closed doors,” said Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez. “I’m honored to be recognized by the Good Government Coalition for standing up for voters and advocating for a fair, transparent process in every corner of our democracy.”
Councilman Yousef J. Saleh, running for Assembly in LD32 alongside Ramirez, is a progressive voice for affordability, access, and civic engagement in Jersey City.
“Trust in government starts with transparency and a willingness to be held accountable,” said Councilman Yousef J. Saleh. “I’m proud to campaign as a Democrat for Change alongside Jessica, Barbara, and Mayor Fulop, and I’m grateful for GGCNJ’s endorsement of our mission to bring transparent leadership to Trenton.”
