Over 260 African American Faith Leaders Endorse Governor Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Oliver for Reelection
NEWARK — Governor Phil Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver today received endorsements from over 260 African American faith leaders representing parishioners across the Garden State. Members of the African American faith community commended the Murphy-Oliver administration for enacting transformational progressive policies that have uplifted communities of color and moved New Jersey forward.
Faith leaders highlighted Governor Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Oliver’s commitment to eliminating deep-seated racial inequities in wages, health care, housing, education, access to the ballot box, and the criminal justice system.
“Governor Murphy has shown a deep commitment to humanity, compassion, and advancing equity,” said Rev. Charles Boyer. “It is critical he gets a second term so we can continue to work on critical issues for the Black community.”
“I’m voting for Governor Murphy because I know my history, and we cannot afford to go backward, only forward,” said Rev. John Taylor. “New Jersey will continue to move forward with Governor Murphy and Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver leading the way.”
“God’s grace and Governor Murphy have us on the road to a stronger and fairer New Jersey,” said Rev. Louise Scott-Rountree. “We must continue to build on this progress so that we can lift up all New Jersey residents, and we can only do that by supporting and reelecting Phil D. Murphy.”
“No politician is perfect, and none will accomplish everything they promised without having some things fall in place,” said Bishop Toyin Laoye. “But I can say without equivocation, I fully support Governor Murphy because of his consistency, his intentional push for inclusiveness, his exceptional leadership during this COVID-19 pandemic, and the major campaign promises he has already kept. He must be reelected to finish the job.”
“Our communities of faith have been instrumental to our progress in making New Jersey a place where we once again believe in second chances, where solidarity is our strength, and where everyone is treated with the basic human dignity to which they are entitled,” said Governor Murphy. “Working together with our African American faith leaders, we’ll continue to break down longstanding barriers and build a stronger, fairer, and more resilient New Jersey for all. I’m honored to have earned their support, which reaffirms our shared values and commitment to moving New Jersey forward.”
“Governor Murphy and I are humbled to receive the overwhelming support from the African American faith communities who’ve stood by us since day one,” said Lieutenant Governor Oliver. “Together, we must further our progress and continue to create a future in which every New Jersey family has an opportunity to succeed.”
