32BJ SEIU Vice President and NJ State Director Kevin Brown Denounces McConnell Vote, Calls for Unity

Following Republican Vote against the Green New Deal, 32BJ President Urges All People of Conscience to Unite for Our Future

The following statement can be attributed to Kevin Brown, Vice President and NJ State Director of 32BJ SEIU, the largest property service union in the country.

“For the first time, elected leaders like Representative Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Markey are recognizing that our climate and economic crises are intertwined and can only be solved with bold and effective government action.

Now, we’re urging all labor unions, elected officials, environmental groups and community allies to work together to implement a Green New Deal that lives up to its bold vision. On the heels of Senator McConnell’s unnecessary and, unfortunately, unsurprising vote against holding rich corporations accountable to the health of our communities, it’s more important than ever that we come together to reduce greenhouse gasses, switch to renewable energies and create strong, union jobs while ensuring a just transition for impacted workers.  Creating good jobs in this exciting new industry is as doable as it is necessary, but only if we work together in unity rather than giving into Washington’s divisive tactics.

Unions cannot just be fighting for the members we have now, we must also be fighting for our future generation’s right to a healthy environment and a viable economy. Let’s work together to shape the Green New Deal into legislation that works for all of us.”
