With 67% of NJ Supporting Gov. Murphy’s School Mask Mandate, Ciattarelli Once Again Appealing Only to the Extreme Fringe

GOP Candidate’s Lies About COVID Not Affecting Children, Opposition to Mask Mandate Put Him Squarely Out of the Mainstream

TRENTON, NJ — Just as he is on issues like gun safety, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ inclusiveness, and support for Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election, Republican gubernatorial candidate Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli is dramatically out of step with the mainstream on school mask mandates. A new poll from Monmouth University shows that 67% of New Jersey voters support Governor Murphy’s mask mandate, with an even higher percentage among parents. Assemblyman Ciattarelli, on the other hand, strongly opposes mask mandates and even dangerously claims that “children are not vulnerable to this virus,” once again proving how out-of-touch he is with the majority of residents and how fully he has sold out to the most extreme fringe of the Republican Party.

“Jack Ciattarelli’s campaign is failing because he’s obsessed with appealing to the most extreme elements of the Republican Party, and his opposition to masking in schools is just the latest example,” said NJDSC Spokesman Phil Swibinski. “The vast majority of voters and parents agree with Governor Murphy’s commonsense approach to protecting our children and keeping schools open, but instead of acting responsibly, Ciattarelli keeps lying about the effects of COVID-19 on kids and spreading conspiracy theories about masks that have no scientific or factual basis. This kind of irresponsible pandering to the far right has no place in New Jersey and just makes it more and more clear that Assemblyman Ciattarelli is the wrong choice for governor.”
