A New Generation Steps Up: Richie Mejia Announces Run for A Better Clifton
Richard Mejia, better known as Richie Mejia, has officially announced his candidacy for Clifton City Council, becoming one of the first certified candidates in the race. At 26, he is among the youngest candidates and brings a fresh, community-focused perspective to local leadership.
“My goal is to inspire a renewed sense of pride in our community through lasting progress,” said Mejia. “Progress happens when we work together. Together, we can work towards building #ABetterClifton.”
Born and raised in Clifton, Mejia is a first-generation college graduate who earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Felician University, where he served as Student Body President, and later completed his MBA.
He currently works as a Project Manager at a university, where he oversees multimillion-dollar budgets and manages programs and grants that support student success.
Mejia previously served on the Clifton Board of Education, where he advocated for students and families and worked to expand opportunities. As one of the youngest elected officials to serve in that role, he brought a fresh perspective to local leadership. He has also served with AmeriCorps and remains active in the community through coaching and as Vice President and Trustee of the Clifton History Botany District, supporting revitalization efforts in Botany Village.
His campaign is focused on key issues including public safety, affordability, flooding, infrastructure, economic development, and government transparency. He is committed to improving city services, supporting local businesses, investing in stormwater solutions, and ensuring accountable leadership.
