Dr. Brown brings vast coastal and wetlands experience to the firm
Marmora, NJ – July 18, 2022 – ACT Engineers, Inc., experts in civil engineering, coastal and environmental services, surveying, public involvement, landscape architecture and construction administration is pleased to announce that Dr. Nick Brown has joined the ACT Engineers team as Director of Coastal Geology and Resiliency.
In his new position, Dr. Brown – who holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Grand Valley State University and a PhD in Geosciences from Florida Atlantic University – is responsible for coastal geology field study design and analysis, resiliency project identification and development, field oversight and support, developing partnerships on the local, state and federal level, and advocating for resilience-minded coastal policy and integrating changes into projects.
“I’m excited to apply my years of experience studying wetlands and coastal processes to my work at ACT Engineers,” Dr. Brown said. “I hope to help navigate the company further in the areas of coastal resiliency and as a strong advocate for resiliency-minded coastal legislation. Furthermore, I want to establish ACT Engineers as a leader in innovative coastal engineering design and research,“
Dr. Brown has extensive experience working in coastal settings collecting and processing elevation and sediment data. He has published multiple peer-reviewed papers examining coastal processes. His research experience consists of analyzing landscape evolution in coastal systems, identifying controls on sediment transport patterns, monitoring beach response and recovery following storms, and exploring the role of the physical environment on coastal ecosystems.
“This is a natural progression of the ongoing growth of ACT Engineers. Dr. Brown brings additional technical expertise and relationships to assist our clients restore and protect their coastal communities,” said ACT Engineers President Eric Rosina. “Dr. Brown will work with resiliency focused federal agencies and non-profits to leverage the great work each of our clients is doing, maximizing efficiency and the collective impact along the coast. We are excited to have Nick on board and what it will mean for our clients.”
As an advocate for resilience-minded coastal legislation, Dr. Brown works with many non-profit organizations to promote heathy coastal systems and communities. He also volunteers his time to technical committees for the American Shore and Beach Preservation (ASBPA) and New Jersey Coastal Resilience Collaborative and frequently assists in organizing both the ASBPA’s National Coastal Conference and Summit’s where he serves as the awards chair. ACT Engineers expects that Dr. Brown will increase his involvement in the established coastal organizations as he plugs in over the next few months.
