Airbnb Introduces Airbnb Rooms in 2023 Summer Release, Unveils Surf City, NJ as Trending Summer Destinations

Today, Airbnb unveiled its 2023 Summer Release, introducing:

  • Airbnb Rooms, an all-new take on the original Airbnb, offering more affordable ways for guests to experience a destination by staying with a local:

    • Airbnb Rooms feature an all-new way to search for private room stays with a dedicated Rooms Category offering a curated set of 1 million private rooms; learn more about one’s Host via the Host Passport, which includes details Hosts have shared about themselves, from what they do for work to fun facts; as well as ways to narrow one’s search using additional filters and expanded privacy features.

    • Private rooms are a popular way to travel and save. Last year, nights stayed in a private room listing grew by 40 percent compared to the year prior, and more than 80 percent of private rooms are under $100/night, with an average rate of $67/night.

    • Hosting serves as an economic lifeline for many, with the typical private room Host earning more than ever. Last year, private room Hosts in the US earned a total of approximately $1.2 billion while the typical private room Host earned over $4,800.

      • In New Jersey last year, Airbnb Rooms Hosts earned a total of over $23 million while the typical private room Host earned more than $5,300.

  • Over 50 additional upgrades. After spending months reading millions of customer service tickets, thousands of social media posts and speaking with hundreds of thousands of guests and Hosts, Airbnb created a blueprint of the entire Airbnb experience – every screen, every policy, and every interaction was mapped out. This blueprint helped inform our 2023 Summer Release, and includes:

  • Redesigned wishlists, featuring an all-new interface, one-tap saving, and an improved calendar that shows availability of wishlisted homes. Guests can also add notes to any wishlisted listing – making it easier to remember why they loved it. Since launching wishlists a decade ago, over one billion wishlists have been created.

  • Total price display, with the option to view the total price with fees, before taxes, across the entire  app including in search results, price filter, maps, and listing pages. Since December, when the feature was offered to guests as optional, more than 8 million visitors turned the total price toggle on.

  • Transparent checkout instructions, so guests can now view checkout instructions on the listing page before booking, and receive a reminder before they leave the home. During the review process, guests can tell us about any excessive requests. And listings with repeated low ratings from unreasonable chores will be removed from Airbnb.

As part of the 50 upgrades, Airbnb will also launch 25 improvements for Hosts, including new pricing tools to help them see the nightly price inclusive of all fees, compare the average prices of similar listings booked nearby, and easily add weekly and monthly discounts.
