ANDY KIM ENDORSES PLAN TO CREATE MILLIONS OF JOBS

In a fundraising missive sent out this afternoon, Rep. Andy Kim described anonymous phone calls that were made to voters in NJ's Third Congressional District aimed at casting doubt on Kim's trustworthiness ahead of the 2020 election.

Kim Supports Bold Infrastructure Plan Days After Opponent Tom MacArthur Votes for Trump’s Trillion Dollar Giveaway to the Wealthy

NEW JERSEY — Andy Kim, the Democratic nominee in the New Jersey Third Congressional District, pledged to support a slate of principles that call for sweeping infrastructure legislation to  create millions of jobs and repair the nation’s crumbling roads, bridges, and schools.

Kim is one of one-hundred-and-fifty elected officials and challengers to endorse the ten guiding principles of the Millions of Jobs Coalition, a diverse coalition of grassroots activists, community organizations, and labor unions fighting for a bold 21st century infrastructure plan.

See the principles here.

“We need to invest in our national infrastructure, we can see right here in New Jersey the need for those investments,” said Kim. “Roads, bridges, and tunnels need to be repaired and updated, we need to make sure our water is clean and the pipes that transport it are clean as well. All this work will also bring good paying jobs to New Jersey. I hope to lead the fight for infrastructure projects and the jobs that come with those investments in Congress.”

A federal program to revamp the country’s crumbling infrastructure could be a major boon to the Garden State. New Jersey’s infrastructure was rated D+ by the American Society of Civil Engineers. One in ten New Jersey bridges are structurally deficient. And the Union of Concerned Scientists lists New Jersey as the state with the second-most homes at risk for high tide flooding – a major issue for CD-3’s Ocean County.

Kim’s announcement comes just days after his opponent, U.S. Rep. Tom MacArthur, became the only member of the New Jersey congressional delegation to support Donald Trump’s second wave of tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. The Republican Tax Plan 2.0 will cost $2.9 trillion in revenue over ten years, at the expense of investments that would create jobs and strengthen New Jersey’s economy. MacArthur was also the sole New Jersey vote for the original Trump tax plan in 2017, which generated massive profits for some investors and CEOs through stock buybacks but has failed to boost worker wages.

“While Tom MacArthur rubber stamps Donald Trump’s giveaways to the wealthy and corporations, Andy Kim is fighting for investments that will create jobs and fix our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools,” said Analilia Mejia, executive director of New Jersey Working Families. “The choice in November couldn’t be clearer.”
