ANOTHER PROMINENT MEMBER OF LAW ENFORCEMENT ENDORSES JAMES DAVIS FOR HUDSON COUNTY SHERIFF

Hudson County, NJ – Citing both his experience in law enforcement and significant accomplishments as mayor of Bayonne, Essex County Sheriff Amir Jones today joined the growing list of people and organizations endorsing James Davis for Hudson County Sheriff.

“I’ve seen the important work Mayor Davis has done rising through the ranks of law enforcement before successfully prioritizing debt reduction and access to affordable housing for all Bayonne residents,” said Sheriff Jones.  “We live in unique and chaotic times and his experience and determination would help provide the fresh perspective needed to meet this moment.  As Sheriff, I’ve prioritized the enhancement of public safety through innovative policing while working to deepen our Department’s community outreach and I believe James Davis is the partner we need to join us in those efforts.”

James Davis’ vast experience in law enforcement saw him rise to the position of captain and included his service in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s homicide division, eventually bringing him to an assignment leading a special crimes unit and working alongside prosecutors from several counties, the FBI, U.S. Treasury Department and Department of Justice.  As mayor of Bayonne, Davis oversaw the drastic reduction of decades’ old debt while prioritizing the revitalization of the city by attracting new businesses and increasing access to affordable housing for all residents.

“Today’s endorsement is another critical building block in advance of June 10th’s election,” said Davis.  “Sheriff Jones has exhibited tremendous leadership skills while actively focusing on establishing a strong bond between his office and the community they have sworn to protect.  His office serves as a tremendous example of the great work the County Sheriff’s Office can accomplish when they have the right leadership.”

Recently, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Superiors FOP #127, a group under Sheriff Schillari’s direct command, stated in their endorsement of Davis for Sheriff that they believe “his vision will restore pride in the badge and bring back a sense of purpose” missing with Schillari in charge.

Davis continued, “I believe the bloated budgets, skyrocketing overtime expenditures and rampant cronyism over these last three decades under Sheriff Schillari’s reign are only part of the problem.  When the people directly under his command are openly talking about his leadership diminishing pride in the badge and creating a lack of purpose there can be no better indicator that it is long past time for a change.”

Davis has already received the endorsement of the Hudson County Democratic Organization and Democratic Chair Craig Guy and Vice-Chair Mareilka Diaz, Union City Mayor Brian P. Stack, West New York Mayor Albio Sires, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner, Kearny Mayor Carol Jean Doyle, PBA Local 7, the Police Superior Officers Association (PSOA), FMBA Local 11, Fire Officers Local 211, Somerset County Sheriff Darrin Russo and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Superiors FOP Lodge #127.
