Assembly Democrats to Hold Press Conference on Anti-Hunger Legislation Thursday at State House

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assembly Human Services Committee Chairwoman Joann Downey will hold a press conference Thursday on 14 anti-hunger bills being voted on in the Assembly Human Services Committee.

Joining Speaker Coughlin and Assemblywoman Downey will be Adele LaTourette from Hunger Free NJ, Carlos Rodriguez from Community Food Bank of NJ, James King from the Office of Social Concerns, New Jersey Catholic Conference, Alfred Murray from the NJ Agricultural Society and Mark Dinglasan from CUMAC in Paterson.

The press conference will take place Thursday, November 29 at 11:00 AM in Room 109 in the State House.

“Food insecurity is a major issue for hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans,” said Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “With these fourteen bills, we are addressing some of the most significant aspects of food insecurity, including food waste, expanding access to vital programs which feed our state’s hungry population and incentivizing farmers to participate in programs which aid the needy. Tomorrow will be a great day for New Jersey.”

“The bills we are voting on tomorrow in the Human Services Committee can provide great relief for hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans struggling to make ends meet and provide adequate food for their families,” said Downey (D-Monmouth). “Our job is to ensure to the best of our abilities that we can end food insecurity in New Jersey once and for all.”
