Assemblywoman Tucker on Hearing to Discuss Veterans Concerns
(TRENTON) – Following Wednesday’s Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing on issues concerning veterans with catastrophic injuries and disabilities, Chairwoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex) issued the following statement:
“As legislators, it is imperative that we communicate with veterans who are directly impacted by issues about which many other residents may be unaware. Hearing daily struggles and realities from disabled veterans themselves is vital for us to work toward creating legislation that honors and truly helps those who have served our country.
“Today’s hearing shed light on the difficulties disabled veterans face in regards to transportation. We have established ways to help them travel to doctor’s appointments and other necessary meetings, but it is abundantly clear there are many unaddressed gaps in their state-funded travel benefits that must be improved.
“The Assembly Military and Veterans’ Affairs Committee will continue to communicate with interest groups and disabled veterans to generate potential resolutions and mend the transportation gaps that exist.”
