Endorses Richter for Congress
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – David Richter, Republican candidate running to represent New Jersey’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, announced today that he has received the endorsement of Atlantic City Republican Club President Fernando Fernandez.
Atlantic City, located in Atlantic County, has approximately 40,000 residents. It is the third largest municipality in the Second District which includes all of Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties, as well as parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Ocean counties.
Fernandez said, “I am supporting David’s campaign for a very simple reason: he is the only Republican in this race who can beat Jeff Van Drew. He has a record of accomplishment and the fundraising ability to not just make this a competitive race but to actually unseat Van Drew and help give the Republican Party a majority in the House next year.”
“I am very grateful to Fernando for his support and for joining my effort to return the Second District to Republican control,” said Richter. “Jeff Van Drew is one of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents in Congress and I am the only Republican candidate in this race that can defeat him next November,” Richter added.
President Donald Trump won the district by five points in 2016 and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin won it by ten points in 2018, while Van Drew barely won the district last year with only 52.9% of the vote despite outspending his Republican opponent by more than six-to-one.
“Despite running as an alleged conservative Democrat, Van Drew has voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi 91% of the time and with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 84% of the time. He is voting against the interests of small and family-owned businesses, he is voting against the interests of law-abiding gun owners, and he is voting against the interests of working families. The citizens of South Jersey need a real conservative in Congress who will work hard for smaller government, lower taxes and secure borders, and who will fight to protect, not undermine, their constitutional rights,” added Richter.
Richter is the former CEO of global construction management firm Hill International. A lifelong Republican, he grew up in and has spent most of his life living and working in South Jersey. He earned two bachelor’s degrees and a law degree from Penn as well as master’s degrees from Oxford and Harvard. Richter and his wife Michelle, who have been married for 20 years, are the parents of four daughters.
