BCRO Files Election Challenge in East Rutherford

Bergen County Republican Organization Chair Jack Zisa congratulated Paul Juliano on his election to the head of the county Democrats, a party he says is one of deceit and trickery and has not been serving the needs of the working people.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Today, Republican candidate for East Rutherford Mayor Sergio Segalini filed a challenge to the 2019 General Election result which he currently trails Democrat Jeff Lahullier by a mere five votes. The challenge is being backed by the Bergen County Republican Organization and was filed by Matthew Gilson, the BCRO election law attorney, from the Law Offices of Richard Malagiere, P.C.

“The Bergen County Republican Organization stands ready to fight to make sure every election shows the full and fair result of the people living in that municipality,” said BCRO Chairman Jack Zisa, “as we saw in Westwood last year, due to the Democrats changes in the vote-by-mail laws often times people are mailed ballots to places they no longer reside.”

The verified petition filed today challenged the votes of twenty-five voters who there is significant evidence no longer resident in East Rutherford. Additionally, it seeks the inclusion of one vote-by-mail ballot which is believed to have been improperly excluded.

“I look forward to this process and ensuring that the will of the voters of East Rutherford is fairly heard” said Segalini, “I owe this to all those who put their faith into voting for me.”

The challenge will now go before Bergen County Superior Court no later than thirty days from filing.
