Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton announces arrest of Amanda Jean Torres
Hackensack, N.J. – Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton announces arrest of Amanda Jean Torres, Age: 26 of Queens, New York, who was arrested on the charges:
Criminal Trespass-Defiant Trespasser
Obstruction of Administration of Law
Disorderly Conduct
Aggravated assault on a Police officer
Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance
Possession of Drug paraphernalia
On December 29, 2020 at approximately 7:00 PM, Bergen County Sheriff’s Officers arrested Amanda Torres of Queens, NY, for failing to comply with officer during a peaceful ICE protest in from of the Bergen County Jail. Ms. Torres was told on numerous instances by sheriff’s officers to not to cross the barricades placed at the entrance to the jail property. She refused to comply with officers and then stood on the barricade and yelled threats of physical harm by stating; “I’M A BOXER. I’LL F**K ALL Y’ALL UP!” She was asked to stay on the opposite of the barricade, at which point she continued to pace back and forth, cursing at the officers. She was advised that if she crossed the barricades again she would be placed under arrest. As officers walked away from Torres, she crossed the barricades and was subsequently arrested. During the arrest, Torres resisted by kicking officers and refusing to be handcuffed. Ms. Torres had in her possession suspected controlled dangerous substance marijuana and suspected cocaine, along with an assortment of drug paraphernalia.
Ms. Torres has been previously arrested in the last month for 3rd degree assault, possession of firearms, and possession of narcotics in New York.
Sheriff Anthony Cureton maintains all individuals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
