Bob Healey Closes Campaign by Calling for 13-Week Abortion Ban in New Jersey

MARLTON NJ – Today, Andy Kim released the following statement following Bob Healey’s shocking revelation that he wants a 13-week abortion ban in New Jersey.

 “In the state of New Jersey we should and can find a compromise somewhere around the first trimester. I’ve been very clear about that.”

“I was stunned when I heard Bob Healey during our debate call for a 13-week abortion ban in New Jersey,” said Andy Kim. “That would be even more extreme than Senator Lindsey Graham’s 15-week national ban and would make our state even more restrictive than Utah when it comes to women’s reproductive freedom.”

“No woman is truly free unless she has control over her own body,” said Jenniffer Hernandez, a Navy veteran who was featured in Kim’s ad, ‘Fortunate.’ “Mr. Healey, there is no compromise when it comes to a woman being in control of what happens to her own body.”

“How hard is it for us to just agree that pregnancy shouldn’t be forced on anyone? It’s disgusting to me that Healey would say he wants to compromise on my rights and my body,” said Katie Lucas, a resident of Riverton. “Health care decisions should remain between patients and doctors, not local politicians. I can’t wait to vote for Andy! I trust him wholeheartedly – I know him, and I know he’s going to continue to stand up for me and for my rights. Thank you Andy for giving me hope for my daughter’s future!”

“When I heard Bob Healey say that in these debates I couldn’t believe it. I never thought I’d see the day where people here in New Jersey wanted to take away a woman’s right to choose,” said Doris Lin, resident of Freehold Township. “My family is here because we feel safe here, we feel like Andy has our back, and because there are laws here that protect me and my daughters. I don’t trust Healey to keep me and my family safe. I saw what he said and I believe him.”

If Bob Healey gets his way:

  • The decision about whether or not a woman can have an abortion is no longer decided by a woman or her doctor, it’s decided by local politicians;

  • Girls in New Jersey would grow up with fewer healthcare rights and options than their mothers and grandmothers;

  • New Jersey would be MORE conservative than Lindsey Graham’s proposed national abortion ban;

  • Women and families would not be allowed to make critical healthcare decisions for themselves without his consent; and

  • Local politicians would be able to ban abortion even in the cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother.

Bob Healey’s idea of “compromise” is allowing politicians to take away rights from women.
