BRIDGEWATER COUNCIL PASSES RESOLUTION BANNING TOWNSHIP BUSINESS WITH RUSSIAN AFFILIATIED COMPANIES, CONDEMNING RUSSIAN AGGRESSION
Bridgewater, NJ – At tonight’s Council Meeting, the Bridgewater Township Council passed a resolution adamantly condemning Russia’s aggression towards the sovereign nation of Ukraine, ceasing any business with Russian companies, and standing with the strong people of Ukraine in this time of war and strife.
“The people of Ukraine have relentlessly defended their home country against a far larger military opponent,” said Councilman Filipe Pedroso. “This resolution and show of support are the least we can do to show out solidarity with the Ukrainian people. I hope that this gesture, in some small way, will serve to bolster the efforts we have seen all around the world to hold Russia accountable for its unjustified invasion.”
“The strength and resolve of the Ukrainian people during this unprovoked and horrific invasion has been inspiring,” Council Vice President Michael Kirsh added. The Bridgewater Municipal Complex has been lit Blue and Yellow in solidarity with the people of Ukraine since the start of the conflict. “I am proud to add Bridgewater’s voice to the overwhelming chorus of support for Ukraine, its people, and for peace.”
The resolution mirrors recently signed legislation championed by Assembly Minority Leader John DiMaio, who represents Bridgewater and the 23rd legislative district in Trenton. The legislation levies significant prohibitions on financial investment activity in the Russian Federation, further impeding their hopes of sustaining their invasion.
“We at the Ukrainian History and Education Center are extremely grateful and heartened by the incredible outpouring of support for Ukraine in Bridgewater, across New Jersey, throughout the United States, and around the world,” said a spokesman from the Ukrainian History and Education Center in Somerset when asked for comment. “Russia’s unprovoked, unjustified, and unlawful war is a war about history. It is not simply a war with historical causes; it is a war about the historical narrative itself. While we are not a humanitarian aid organization and are not directly involved in collecting relief aid or other donations, we are doing our small part by providing information and resources about Ukrainian history and culture for New Jerseyans locally, and for Americans and people of goodwill around the world through our online content. Your support in the form of this Council resolution gives us further confidence that Ukraine’s story is being heard and will ultimately triumph.”
