Building Trades President Mullen: Governor ‘Trying To Settle Political Scores’ With Task Force Hearings

NJ Building Trades President Bill Mullen released the following statement:

‘On behalf of the New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Council representing more than 150,000 working men and women, I am extremely concerned about the so called “Governor’s Task Force Hearings” on the Economic Development Authority on Thursday in Newark, and the impact it will have on our state’s ability to attract and retain businesses willing and able to make investment in our communities.

The panel’s actions and the coordinated attacks in the press by the Governor’s office and its allies send an unmistakable signal that promises made today can be the source of an attack tomorrow. What business would want to stay in New Jersey, much less come here from elsewhere?

The hardworking members of the New Jersey Building Trades rely on ongoing development to earn a living and provide for their families. I believe Thursday’s hearing will make that harder.

Without investment and growth, our members won’t have jobs – and I can’t allow that to happen merely because the Governor is trying to settle political scores.

It’s time to stop this sideshow and focus on what is most important to New Jersey’s future: building a plan for real economic investment and growth.’
