New Jersey receives federal disaster declaration

Designation will unlock federal emergency relief funds for state

(Camden, NJ) – Gov. Phil Murphy announced Thursday morning that the president has issued a Major Disaster Declaration for New Jersey in the face of the widening COVID-19 pandemic.

The declaration allows for federal assistance to supplement statewide recovery efforts and will unlock critical financial resources for individuals and vital facilities such as hospitals that are already being strained by the pandemic.

“This declaration is an important step toward bringing in the federal resources that will be needed in the days and weeks to come as the coronavirus infects more and more New Jerseyans,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. “We’re thankful to the president for issuing this declaration and hopeful that these resources can have a positive impact in aiding individual New Jerseyans and in bolstering our state’s health care system as it becomes overwhelmed dealing with coronavirus patients.”
