Cape May County: Vaccinated People Don’t Need to Wear Masks Outdoors

Vaccinated People Don’t Need to Wear Masks Outdoors

Gov. Phil Murphy said on Friday that vaccinated people do not need to wear a mask outdoors anymore. Masks were required outdoors when social distancing could not take place. There is no change on the indoor mask mandate in New Jersey, according to the Governor.

Cape May County officials are encouraged by the declining COVID case rates and high vaccination numbers in the County and believe this should lead to businesses being fully open this summer. Further restrictions will be eased next week on May 19th that include increasing the indoor gathering limit to 50 people and having the outdoor gathering limit completely removed.

“Cape May County has been leading in the State in vaccination rates per capita,” said Cape May County Commissioner Jeff Pierson, liaison to the County’s Department of Health. “We welcome additional steps to returning to normal as we work to ensure everyone who wants a vaccine is provided one.”

Individuals who still haven’t received their COVID vaccine can visit the Cape May County Government website https://www.capemaycountynj.gov, and following the links to register with the State’s vaccine website. Once registered, an email will be sent by the State of New Jersey to sign up for a vaccination appointment. Individuals can also call 855-568-0545 to get assistance with setting up a vaccine appointment.

“We want to encourage people who still haven’t gotten vaccinated to get the shot,” said Cape May County Commissioner Director Gerald M. Thornton. “We are seeing new infection rates plummet as vaccination rates increase. As a result, the summer in the Jersey Cape should be a great one as we work to get our businesses fully open. I want to thank Commissioner Pierson and the entire staff at the Cape May County Department of Health for their hard work throughout this pandemic to keep our residents healthy.”
