Carter, Karabinchak & Calabrese Bill to Study Economic Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Economic Growth Clears Assembly

(TRENTON) – As part of New Jersey’s ongoing thrust towards an innovation economy, Assembly Democrats Linda Carter (D-Middlesex, Somerset, Union) and Robert Karabinchak (D-Middlesex) and Clinton Calabrese (D-Bergen, Passaic) released the following joint statement Wednesday regarding a bill (A-195) that would require the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, in consultation with the Commission on Science, Innovation, and Technology, to conduct a study on the economic impacts of artificial intelligence on economic growth.

“The artificial intelligence space is evolving and truly fascinating. However, we still need to have more information on how this aspect of technology will impact New Jersey’s workforce and the overall economy.

“While previous studies on artificial intelligence have focused on the service industries, this bill mandates a study that will concentrate on highly-skilled and highly-educated professionals such as doctors, lawyers, data analysts, and similarly skilled workers. This information is crucial and will help us gain the clearest picture of artificial intelligence on our economy.”

The measure recently cleared the full Assembly, 69-0-1. It will now go to the Senate for further consideration.
