Follow the Leader Representative Mikie Sherrill is at it once again and this time, it is to the detriment of our country

Montville, NJ- Larry Casha candidate for the 11th Congressional District released the following statement:

“Representative Mikie Sherrill announced today that she will be voting to impeach the President of the United States based upon the talking points of the Democratic Leadership under Nancy Pelosi.

In her statement, she cites her previous military service to our nation, which is to be commended, however her lack of factual justification for impeaching a President cannot be commended.  She cites that her military service taught her to put country before politics, well voting for the impeachment of the President based upon Speaker Pelosi’s political party motivations does not demonstrate commitment to our country.  It only demonstrates the exact opposite.

Once again, Sherrill is following the leader but this time the wrong one.

Pelosi and Sherrill pointed out for several weeks that “bribery” was the reason for the impeachment of the President, yet “bribery” is nowhere to be found now.  Why is that?  The polls in swing states found the word “bribery” would be helpful to Pelosi in 2020, so regardless of the facts, they used the word.

The real facts of this situation are just this:  The simplistic portrayal of the support that the United States provides Ukraine, fueled by the flawed logic of the impeachment inquiry is leading our country into dangerous waters.  Please note that the Democrats must prove the President’s actions were so harmful to the republic that they warrant the extreme constitutional recourse of removing him from office. That encourages them to play up the connection between the President’s pressure tactics on Ukraine and the fallout for the nation’s security.

Let’s be clear, this is not a decades-old international order for military aid to Ukraine. The U.S. government has provided security assistance to Ukraine since 2014, when Russia intervened militarily.  President Obama said that assisting Ukraine was not a U.S. national-security concern.  Obama said, “The fact is that Ukraine, which is a non-NATO country, is going to be vulnerable to military domination by Russia no matter what we do.”  So, he did nothing, which was just fine with Pelosi and Sherrill until July of this year.

It wasn’t until 2018 when the United State approved 210 Javelin missiles that Russia began to pull back tanks threatening Ukraine.  The Obama administration agonized over the issue of the Javelin missiles but never approved the sale out of fear of escalating the conflict.  Today, the Democrats have dramatically shifted their position from the Obama years because of their 2016 Presidential loss and 2020 political considerations.  When the Trump administration held up security assistance from mid-July to mid-September of 2019 (2 months), Congress erupted in a new impeachment frenzy to try and remove a President before he can run for re-election.  Something they vocalized since the moment the President was elected.

Representative Sherrill also stated that it was her Constitutional duty to vote for impeachment.  The Constitution needs to be followed in its entirety, including the Due Process Clause which wasn’t during the House of Representatives impeachment hearings.  Her duty as a leader, at that time, would have been to condemn the lack of due process.  She didn’t.

The people want progress and want leaders who will get things done – not impeachment.  Clearly, Representative Sherrill believes that being a member of the Democratic party, a party that spends all their time and attention on the removal of the President of the United States is more important than working for her constituents.

Leader Pelosi admitted last week that the Democrats have been trying to impeach the President for two and a half years.  The people of the 11th Congressional District deserve better.  The people deserve leaders that will work with the President on their behalf not spend time trying to undo the results of an election.  Representative Sherrill said in her 2018 campaign that “Facts Matter”.  Well, these are the facts that Representative Sherrill ignores because it does not fall into the political playbook handed to her by Speaker Pelosi.  Follow the Leader Mikie is at it once again and this time, it is to the detriment of our country.”
