Chiaravalloti, Schaer & Benson Bill Establishing Minimum Medicaid Reimbursement Rate for Adult Medical Day Care Services Advances in Assembly

(TRENTON) – To establish a minimum amount organizations must be reimbursed for providing adult medical day care services, Assembly Democrats Nicholas Chiaravalloti, Gary Schaer and Daniel Benson sponsor a bill requiring the reimbursement rate for these organizations within the Medicaid program to be no less than the State Medicaid fee-for-service (FFS) rate.

Adult medical day care centers provide outpatient health, therapeutic and social services/activities for participants. The services must be ordered by a medical practitioner on behalf of eligible patients whose care is provided by qualified staff meeting New Jersey licensing requirements.

The bill (A-4238) would make the minimum daily reimbursement rate for centers providing these services no less than the state’s Medicaid FFS rate – which the state pays providers for covered services received by Medicaid beneficiaries.

Upon the measure recently being advanced by the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, Assembly sponsors Chiaravalloti (D-Hudson), Schaer (D-Bergen, Passaic) and Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex) issued the following joint statement:

“Adult medical day care centers offer critical services to people who need care and supervision while their caretakers are unavailable. These centers provide a safe place New Jersey residents can entrust their elderly or disabled loved ones to during the day. At a minimum, these facilities should receive reimbursement from Medicaid equal to the existing fee-for-service rate.”
