Clean Water Action Statement on Governor Murphy’s 100 Day Speech

New Brunswick, NJ–Today, at Rutgers University Governor Phil Murphy gave his 100 day speech that included a shout out to activists around the state who are working so hard to make the changes we all seek–good jobs, a clean environment, and social justice.

The governor spoke about not just making up for the past, but setting a new bar for other states to follow including innovation in wind generation and manufacturing, bringing a 1000 MW offshore wind project to Atlantic County to power 600,000 homes and businesses and creating 1,000 new union jobs. This is just one project that reflects how New Jersey wants to grow – in ways that also combat climate change.

The governor also stated when Washington fails us New Jersey shows leadership by:

  • fighting back for gateway tunnel funding come back;
  • combating climate change by blocking offshore drilling…not now not ever;
  • banning fracking in the Delaware River watershed; and
  • rejoining RGGI and the U.S. Climate Alliance.

He affirmed that we are no longer accepting the way things are and that we’re going to invest in ways that reflects the values of the Garden State.

“Clean Water Action is so encouraged by Governor Murphy’s words on the first 100 days of his administration,” said Amy Goldsmith, NJ State Director, Clean Water Action. “Many more days and good work to do. Clean Water Action and its 150,000 New Jersey members will be there to help put in place a long-lasting and strong environmental agenda that protects the ecology, community and people, especially where most vulnerable and history of environmental injustice exists.”
