Colon & Garcia Campaign Slams Coughlin, Lopez, and Caba for Abusing Government Resources for Political Gain

PERTH AMBOY, NJ - Today, the Colon and Garcia for Assembly District 19 (Carteret, Perth Amboy, Sayreville, South Amboy, Woodbridge Township) campaign blasted Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez, and Perth Amboy Mayor Helmin Caba for abusing taxpayer-funded government mail to promote themselves in an election year, all while New Jersey families continue to suffer under the high costs and rising crime caused by their failed leadership.

A glossy flyer recently included in water utility bills to residents in Perth Amboy uses official seals, photos, and misleading messaging to push a campaign-style narrative about property tax relief— all on the taxpayer’s dime. The mailer promotes state programs while featuring Coughlin, Lopez, and Caba in prominent campaign-style imagery just months before Election Day.

“This is everything wrong with Trenton politics—Craig Coughlin is spending our money to paper over the fact that he’s the reason New Jersey is unaffordable in the first place,” said Maria Garcia, candidate for Assembly. “Our families deserve real relief now—not vanity political propaganda paid for by the taxpayers of District 19.”

“Yvonne Lopez has stood idly by while crime has increased, taxes have skyrocketed, and working families are being left behind. Now she wants to take a victory lap with taxpayer money? It’s disgraceful,” added Marilyn Colon. “This is campaign advertising disguised as public service—and voters in District 19 see right through it.”

“Mayor Caba had a choice—stand with the people of Perth Amboy or cave to the Coughlin political machine,” said the campaign. “He chose the Coughlin machine, and now taxpayers are paying for his loyalty to Trenton insiders instead of putting his own community first.”

Colon and Garcia called for an investigation into the use of government resources for political promotion, the total cost to taxpayers, and renewed their promise for real reform to lower property taxes and restore accountability in Trenton once elected.
