Common Sense Club Announces Senate Parental Bill of Rights; Senator Mike Testa, Prime Sponsor

[Red Bank, NJ]: Common Sense Club today announced that Senator Mike Testa (R-LD1) will be the prime Senate sponsor of the “Parental Bill of Rights”, soon to be introduced in the New Jersey legislature. Inspired by other states who have successfully introduced parental rights bills, this legislation will reassert the preeminence of the family and minimize the involvement of the government in our everyday decisions.

“Using Covid as a convenient cover, our state government has overstepped its bounds with parents and their children”, says Senator Testa. “I have continuously fought for the rights of parents in the face of mandates and legislation which have seriously compromised the integrity of the family. This bill is the logical next step to prevent future erosion of our precious rights and responsibilities as parents to raise our children as we see fit. I’m proud to work with the Common Sense Club to get this done.”

This effort recognizes that the most important people involved with a child’s development are the parents and the law should reflect that fact. Similar to what was recently passed in Florida, the bill will provide that “the state, its political subdivisions, any other governmental entity, or other institution may not infringe upon the fundamental rights of a parent to direct the upbringing, education, health care, and mental health of a minor child.”

Beyond the procedural gathering of legislative co-sponsors, Common Sense Club will invite “citizen signers” to add their name to this legislation as a show of solidarity, strength and support. A state-wide event held in April in addition to an online option will facilitate the gathering of those signatures, bringing average NJ people into the process so their voice is heard.

The bill is expected to be introduced in early April. It will mirror the bill which is being introduced in the Assembly by Assemblyman Christian Barranco (R-LD26).
