Community Yard Sale to Benefit Great Swamp Watershed Association

Madison and the Chathams decrease impact on local landfills by going green on April 17

MORRISTOWN, NEW JERSEY (March 29, 2021) — Great Swamp Watershed Association (GSWA) announced today that they have been selected by the Environmental Commissions of Chatham Borough, Chatham Township, and Madison Borough to benefit from their fourth annual community yard sale. These individual yard sales will take place on the common date of Saturday, April 17, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Registration can be found at GreatSwamp.org.

Participating residents will have their address listed on a digital map for a $10 tax-deductible donation to GSWA. The map offers shoppers sale locations along with the types of merchandise being offered. It will be shared widely with the public via various social media outlets prior to the event. All three towns have waived the usual permit requirements for the event. Those who do not wish to appear on the map may participate at no cost.

“Hosting a yard sale is a great way to kick off Earth Day by following the rule of the three Rs, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” said Sally Rubin, GSWA Executive Director. “These neighboring communities are preventing tons of trash from filling up our local landfills and helping these items become someone else’s treasure. And we truly appreciate their generous donation to our organization.”

All participants are being asked to follow the important COVID-19 guidelines: wear masks, make hand sanitizer available at the tables, encourage contactless payment, and set up sales to facilitate social distancing.

Anyone not hosting their own sale is encouraged to get take advantage of this community event.  “Be sure to mark your calendar for April 17,” said Rubin. “You’ll enjoy some fresh air, meet your neighbors, and find some good deals.”

This yard sale is one of two GSWA community partnership events taking place in April. Beginning April 1, GSWA is working with 17 organizations in 10 towns to offer the public an online native pollinator plant sale that will run through April 22, Earth Day. GSWA has added dozens of other new watershed-friendly living programs to their calendar of events, most of which are free. Register for the Town-wide Yard Sale at www.GreatSwamp.org.
