Congressman Andy Kim Receives Endorsement From District 1199J, National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees in His Bid for U.S. Senate

MOORESTOWN N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim announced the endorsement of District 1199J, National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, in his bid for U.S. Senate. Representing over 9,000 health care and public employees, 1199J is fighting for stronger workers’ rights, a fairer economy, and a better healthcare system. One of the largest unions in the state, 1199J has been on the frontlines of fighting for better wages and working conditions in healthcare facilities, correctional institutions, public agencies, and residential reentry centers. 

“As we fight for a healthcare system that works for all, 1199J helps ensure our workers’ needs are met and that patients get the care they deserve,” said Congressman Andy Kim. “I thank 1199J for placing their trust in me and look forward to partnering with them as Senator to deliver for working families.”

Andy has worked to improve healthcare workers’ lives during his time in Congress, including supporting local nurses on strike, and advocating for additional support to hospital EMS workers through his bipartisan Supporting Our First Responders Act that would help with hiring and retention, training reimbursements, facility upgrades, and more.

Congressman Andy Kim is a three-term Member of Congress first elected in 2018 and is the first Asian American elected to federal office from New Jersey. In 2018 and 2020, Andy defeated two self-funding millionaires in a district carried by former President Trump, and in 2022 Kim defeated his third self-funding millionaire opponent by 12 points. 

In his three terms in Congress, Andy has worked hard to lower costs for New Jersey families and help support small businesses through challenging times. Andy has also been a leading champion in fighting against corruption in our broken politics.
