Congressman Kim Announces $34 Million for Burlington
and Ocean County Colleges through American Rescue Plan

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced that Rowan College of Burlington County and Ocean County College will receive more than $34 million in emergency funding through the American Rescue Plan. Ocean County College will receive $16,041,882 in assistance, while Rowan College at Burlington County will receive $17,970,041 in financial help.

“Our local colleges are pathways to success and the middle class, and they’ve been hard hit during this crisis,” said Congressman Kim. “The American Rescue Plan is about making sure the institutions we rely on to achieve the American Dream – our colleges and schools, our small businesses and restaurants, our families and kids – can get through this pandemic stronger than before. I’m proud to announce this funding and will continue working to make sure our colleges and students have what they need to thrive as we work to return to normal.

The funding, part of $36 billion for nearly 3,500 public and private, nonprofit colleges and universities nationwide, will help local institutions cope with the severe financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and continue serving their students safely. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to students who are facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship.

The American Rescue Plan is the fifth major, comprehensive relief bill the Congressman has passed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Early efforts by Congressman Kim included initial funds for vaccine research and small business assistance. Those efforts were supplemented by a bill that provided funding that helped establish testing and other COVID-19 mitigation efforts. The Congressman went on to fight for and pass the CARES Act, which delivered direct relief funds to working families, assistance to small businesses, and help for frontline health care workers. In December, Congressman Kim passed additional help to begin the process of distributing vaccines and extend help to small businesses and working families.

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
