Congressman Kim Calls for Extension of Unemployment Insurance Help as Coronavirus Crisis Continues
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) called on House and Senate leadership to come together and bring to the House floor a Coronavirus relief package that extends enhanced unemployment coverage for the more than 30 million Americans currently out of work due to the Coronavirus crisis.
“The American people are beyond tired of Washington politics constantly waiting until the last minute and constantly putting our nation on the brink of disaster,” said Congressman Kim. “Senators will not be the ones who feel the dire consequences of their failure, it is unfortunately millions of Americans who will have to pay the price. We in the House passed an extension for Unemployment Insurance over ten weeks ago so we could avoid putting families at risk. To Senate Republican leadership: do your job as if your life depended on it, because that is what millions of Americans face.”
In May, Congressman Kim voted to pass the Heroes Act, which would have delivered another round of direct stimulus payments to New Jersey taxpayers, and would have extended enhanced unemployment benefits through January 31st of 2021. The bill would also extend the 100 percent federal funding of Extended Unemployment Compensation through June 30th of 2021.
