Congressman Kim Calls for Funds to Help Schools Safely Reopen
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) called on House and Senate leadership to come together and bring to the House floor a Coronavirus relief package that provides robust funding to help schools across Burlington and Ocean County safely reopen, and ensures that schools are properly funded for the upcoming year.
“As the father of two boys, I know the stress parents are facing as they worry about getting their kids back to school,” said Congressman Kim. “We all want to do what’s right for our kids, and the best way to do that is to make sure our schools can reopen safely. But in order for that to happen, and for teachers, students and staff to be safe, we’re going to have to make sure our school districts have the money they need. I voted almost three months ago for funds that would have set our schools up to succeed, it’s time we finish the job and immediately send a bill to the President’s desk to address this issue.”
In May, Congressman Kim voted to pass the Heroes Act, which would have provided $90 billion for the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund for Education. This funding would provide grants to states to support elementary and secondary schools and public postsecondary institutions.
