Congressman Kim Co-Sponsors Bill to Address Money and Corruption in Politics

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) signed on as a co-sponsor to H.R. 1, the For the People Act of 2021, which would enact stronger ethics laws, work to get the corrupting influence of money out of politics, strengthen election security and make it easier for Americans to vote. Congressman Kim was a vocal advocate and co-sponsor of H.R. 1 in the 116th Congress.

“Addressing the corrupting power of money in politics and holding our elected officials accountable when they break the rules is critical to restoring trust in our institutions so that we can come together to deliver for the American people,” said Congressman Kim. “This bill represents the frustration and anger I’ve heard from my neighbors across New Jersey; that the elected officials sent to Washington aren’t there for them, but for a special interest or big corporate donor. That’s not what our democracy is about, and we should do everything we can to fix our systems so that they work for the working men and women who make this country great, not just those who can simply afford it. I hope my colleagues from both sides of the aisle come together and join me in supporting this bill so we can restore trust and make clear that our priorities are always in putting the American people first.”
