Congressman Kim Co-Sponsors Equality Act

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced he has signed on as an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act. Congressman Kim, a member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, also signed on as an original co-sponsor of the Equality Act during the 116th Congress.

“Equal rights should never be in question for our LGBTQ community, but for far too long they’ve been denied,” said Congressman Kim. “This bill isn’t just about recognizing equality for LGBTQ Americans; it’s about ensuring that their lives and livelihoods are protected with the same strict standard as every other American. We came close to passing this bill into law last Congress; now it’s up to us to get it over the finish line.”

The Equality Act ensures the longstanding belief that people should be judged on their merits rather than their identity by granting LGBTQ individuals the same protections from discrimination granted to all Americans based on race, sex, religion or national origin.

“We applaud Congressman Andy Kim for continuing to stand with LGBTQ people here in New Jersey and across the country,” said Christian Fuscarino, Executive Director, Garden State Equality. “While LGBTQ people are protected here in New Jersey, it’s disturbing to know in 29 states LGBTQ people do not currently have the same protections that we have. LGBTQ people work hard, serve in the military, and pay taxes–they deserve the same rights and protections as anyone else.”

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
