Congressman Kim Helps Secure $172,000 in Grant Funding to Recruit and Retain Firefighters
MEDFORD, N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced that the Medford Lakes Fire Department was awarded $172,000 from the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) through FEMA to help recruit, train, and retain firefighters.
“I’m proud to have been able to help the Medford Lakes Fire Department get this grant and support their recruitment, training, and retainment efforts,” said Congressman Kim. “The best part of this job is speaking with people out in the community, hearing what’s on their minds, and getting to work to deliver on their needs. This grant funding gives brave firefighters the direct support they deserve and provides some help in their every day service keeping our communities safe and healthy.”
The SAFER Grant program was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities.
“The Medford Lakes Fire Department is proud to announce that we have been awarded a FEMA SAFER Grant in the amount of $172,000. This federal money will be used over the next 4 years to recruit and retain additional and current volunteers through targeted advertising and a pay per call system,” said Craig Farnsworth, Fire Chief of the Medford Lakes Fire Department. “This grant would not have happened without the help of Congressman Kim’s office who provided direction and support on how to make a successful grant application. We thank Congressman Kim’s office for his continued support.”
Congressman Kim is the Ranking Member on the Military Personnel Subcommittee, and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Select Committee on China.
