Congressman Kim to Hold Town Hall on Child Tax Credit Expansion and Working Family Issues
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced that he will be holding a telephone town hall on Wednesday, July 21st, at 5:30pm to discuss the expansion of the Child Tax Credit which will provide direct relief of $3,000 to $3,600 per child for nearly all working families. Families can expect to start receiving payments as early as today.
“I voted to pass these important changes to the Child Tax Credit because our working families have been through so much during the past year, and they need help,” said Congressman Kim. “As I’ve traveled across Burlington and Ocean Counties, meeting with our neighbors at Head Start centers and service organizations that support people in our community, it’s clear to me how much these tax credits will make an impact. If you’re a parent or are just concerned about helping working families recover from this crisis, I hope you’ll join me next week for our town hall.”
Starting this month, families filing jointly who make less than $150,000 a year (or parents filing as individuals making less than $112,500) will receive a direct payment of $250 a month for children aged six to seventeen, or $300 a month for children under six. Families will receive their remaining expanded Child Tax Credit from the first six months of the year when they file their 2021 tax return.
The expanded Child Tax Credit, in addition to other direct help for working families through the American Rescue Plan, addresses documented rises in poverty and hunger afflicting working families as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout July, Congressman Kim has visited schools, Head Start facilities, and community support facilities throughout Burlington and Ocean Counties to hear from people directly helping working families, and to discuss how the Child Tax Credit changes will impact New Jerseyans they serve.
On the town hall, Congressman Kim will be joined by Channell Wilkins, CEO of OCEAN Inc, and Nadia Hussain, Senior Campaign Director for Early Learning from Moms Rising, who will speak to issues working families are facing in New Jersey, and how the expanded Child Tax Credit and other measures can provide assistance.
Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
