Congressman Kim to Hold Town Hall on Issues Related to Cybersecurity Awareness and Internet Scams

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced that he will be holding a telephone town hall on Thursday, August 19th, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss issues related to cybersecurity safety, awareness, and internet scams.

“In these tough times, the last thing New Jersey’s families and seniors should be worried about are scams that endanger people’s private and sensitive information,” said Congressman Kim. “This town hall will focus on making sure we are all aware of how to properly spot and avoid scams, and the fastest way to protect yourself if you become a victim of identity theft.”

Joining Congressman Kim will be a representative from the AARP Fraud Watch Network, Assistant Prosecutor Taylor Toscano from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s office, and Joseph Remy, Supervisor of the Financial Crimes Unit from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s office.

On April 2nd, 2020, Congressman Kim joined Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, and Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina, in cautioning against the increased potential of scams targeting people receiving COVID-19 relief payments through the CARES Act.

On May 4th , 2021, Congressman Kim introduced the National Guard Cybersecurity Support Act, a bill that would strengthen our nation’s cybersecurity by giving governors the ability to decide when and how to deploy their state’s National Guard to respond to cybersecurity threats against critical government programs and information systems.
