Congressman Kim Holds Telephone Town Hall
on Coronavirus Second Wave Preparedness
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) held a telephone town hall discussing preparations for a potential second wave of the coronavirus. Congressman Kim was joined by Dr. Caitlin Rivers, Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. This was the Congressman’s 26th town hall since he was sworn into office in January 2019.
“We’ve learned a lot over the past seven months on what it takes to fight this pandemic and keep people safe. It’s critically important that we take those lessons to prepare for any potential second wave; it’s why I drafted “The Way Forward’, a comprehensive set of policies and proposals to get our country ready, and it’s why I held this town hall,” said Congressman Kim. “I want to thank Dr. Rivers for sharing her expertise and thank our neighbors across Burlington and Ocean Counties for taking part in this important discussion on how we keep our communities safe and healthy during these tough times.”
Issues brought up by people from across Burlington and Ocean County on the town hall included questions about the long-term health implications of COVID-19, ensuring a safe and effective vaccine is equitably distributed to the American people, the role of the federal government in coordinating a national response to the pandemic, ensuring COVID-19 victims can keep their health care with current threats to the Affordable Care Act, efforts to help small business owners get through the economic impact from the coronavirus crisis, and availability of flu shots for seniors.
Last month, Congressman Kim released ‘The Way Forward: Preparing America for a Second Wave’, a set of recommendations for public health leaders and public officials to prepare for a potential second wave of COVID-19. The full report can be found on Congressman Kim’s website by clicking here.
Congressman Kim is a member of the bipartisan House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, where he serves as one of twelve members of the House tasked with conducting oversight over programs aimed at ending the Coronavirus pandemic and helping address the economic impact it’s having on the American people. Congressman Kim is also a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website by clicking here.
