Congressman Kim Hosts Roundtable to Discuss Mental Health and Suicide Prevention with Veterans and Servicemembers
LACEY N.J. – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) hosted a roundtable to discuss mental health and suicide prevention with veterans and servicemembers.
“It’s an honor to work on behalf of New Jersey’s veterans, who have sacrificed so much for our country and remind us what it means to serve,” said Congressman Kim. “Today I heard more about the barriers veterans face every single day to accessing mental health services, alongside the stigma, fear, and difficulty dealing with bureaucrats in Washington. I’m proud to have nearly doubled the funding for veteran suicide prevention efforts and delivered tangible results for New Jersey’s Third District. I also know much more work remains and I’ll never stop fighting for New Jersey veterans and military families.”
“Thank you, Congressman Kim for bringing together such a diverse range of servicemembers and veterans to talk about this incredibly important topic,” said Torie Fisher, veteran and owner of Backwards Flag Brewery in Forked River. “Mental health care is something we don’t talk about enough and I’m so glad my congressman is taking a lead nationally on making sure veterans and servicemembers have access to needed mental health services.”
Congressman Kim has fought for veterans since his first day in office, including doubling America’s investment in veteran suicide prevention outreach programs, delivering a new, state-of-the-art VA health clinic to Toms River, honoring Gold Star families, securing $621 million for veteran opioid abuse prevention, and was recently named Legislator of the Year by the New Jersey VFW.
Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and the House Committee on Small Business. More information about Congressman Kim can be found on his website, kim.house.gov.
