Congressman Sires Returning as Senior Member of House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ) will be serving as a senior member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in the 117th Congress. As the senior-most representative from New Jersey, Congressman Sires will also be serving on the Highways and Transit Subcommittee and the Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee.
“The 8th District of New Jersey is a massive transportation hub for our nation, and I am honored to once again be charged with championing the priorities of my constituents on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,” said Rep. Sires. “This Committee has oversight over key projects, like the Gateway Project in the 8th District, and important legislation, such as the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. The FAST Act, which is set to expire in September of this year, is essential to ensuring state and local governments know they have a partner in the federal government when it comes to investing in our nation’s critical transportation infrastructure.”
The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation as well as other aspects of our national infrastructure, such as clean water and wastewater management, flood damage reduction, the development of economically depressed rural and urban areas, and disaster preparedness and response.
