Congressman Sires’ Statement Honoring Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick

(Washington, D.C.) – This morning, Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ) released the following statement after paying his respects to Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick:

“Earlier today, I paid my respects to Officer Brian Sicknick, as he lay in honor in the Capitol Rotunda. Those of us who were present at the Capitol on the day of the attack will remain indebted to Officer Sicknick, and every officer who defended the Capitol from those who sought to destroy our democratic institutions. Officer Sicknick is only the fifth private citizen to lie in honor in the Capitol Rotunda, and I cannot think of a more appropriate way to memorialize the man who defended and protected the Capitol with his life. Officer Sicknick’s personalsacrifice and courage will not soon be forgotten. May his memory be a blessing to his family and fellow officers.”
