Congressman Sires Statement on the Passing of Former Secretary of State Colin Powell

(Washington D.C.) – Today, Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ), made the following statement after the passing of former Secretary of State Colin Powell:

“I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Colin Powell this morning. His dedication and service to our country has rarely been matched. Serving in many different capacities, Secretary Powell continually exemplified his patriotism and dedication to our great nation.”

“The son of immigrant parents, Secretary Powell went on to become the first African-American to serve as National Security Advisor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of State; paving the way for generations of immigrants and minorities to pursue their dreams and ambition. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. His knowledge, work-ethic, and love for our country will be missed by all of us.”
