Congressman Sires Votes in Favor of Commission to Investigate January 6th Capitol Attack

(Washington, D.C.) – Tonight, Congressman Albio Sires (D-NJ) voted in favor of H.R. 3233, the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act. This legislation would create a nonpartisan commission to find the facts behind the events leading up to the January 6th Capitol attacks. H.R. 3233 passed the House by a vote of 252-175

“Over four months after the horrific attack on the Capitol, I voted in favor of this commonsense and much-neededcommission,” said Rep. Sires. “The events which unfolded on January 6th were an attack on our institutions and an assault on American democracy itself. It is imperative we establish this commission to ensure we uncover the truth behind the events leading up to this fateful day.”

“It is shameful that more of my colleagues across the aisle did not come to their senses and vote for this legislation, aimed only at uncovering the truth. The majority of Republican membershave decided to base their ideals on lies and misinformation and are determined to blur the line between fiction and realityIf we are to move forward from this tragic event and begin to restore our democracy, a full-fledged investigation is necessary to uncover all appropriate facts, repair all mistakes, and ensure that this threat to democracy can never occur again.”
