CONGRESSMAN VAN DREW ISSUES STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT BIDEN’S SO-CALLED “GAS TAX HOLIDAY”
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement on President Biden’s so-called ‘gas tax holiday.’
“President Biden calling on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for three months is hardly a solution, saving Americans only 18 cents a gallon and gas station companies are not even required to pass these savings along to consumers,” said Congressman Van Drew. “President Biden ignores the fact that the cost of a gallon of gas has doubled since he took office and instead of taking responsibility for his actions, he continues to place blame on Putin and oil companies, when in fact, it is his failed energy policies that have put Americans in this dire situation.
“President Biden killed the Keystone XL pipeline on day one of his presidency, which could be supplying hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil per day, has refused to approve any of the 4,400 pending applications for permits to drill on our land, and now, is about to go beg foreign dictators and adversaries to produce more oil to help ease prices at home. It is simple – the United States is more than capable of producing our own energy, but President Biden refuses to unleash American energy independence. This gas tax is just a ‘gimmick,’ as former President Obama correctly stated in 2008, and it will hardly help the burden every American is feeling at the gas pump. President Biden and this administration must start utilizing the resources we have in the United States and work towards a permanent solution, rather than a politically motivated, temporary fix.”
