Congresswoman Sherrill Launches August Month of Service with Food Drive

West Caldwell, NJ — Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill will launch her “August Month of Service” this week with a district-wide food drive. Throughout the month, Team Mikie will focus on different service activities aimed at meeting the needs of residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“COVID-19 has hit New Jersey hard, and has tested our community over the last several months,” said Congresswoman Sherrill. “But we have also seen incredible examples of how this community looks out for each other. So, we are going to harness that energy, harness that can-do Jersey attitude, and mobilize our volunteers and community networks for service-based activities that will take place throughout the month.”

WEEK ONE: FOOD DRIVE

This week, Team Mikie will be collecting donations for Toni’s Kitchen, Eva’s Kitchen, nourish.NJ, and Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry. Volunteers and residents who are able to give can drop off donations at the Team Mikie headquarters in West Caldwell or the Morris County Democratic Committee office in Morristown.

“There is increased need for food assistance throughout the district because of the pandemic,” Congresswoman Sherrill continued. “Food pantries typically see a decline in donations during the summer months, so this food drive will help organizations in our community working hard to assist our neighbors. Local groups have shared their greatest needs with us, and we are grateful for any donation that residents can make at this time.”

For residents who would like to participate but are unable to make the drop offs, Team Mikie will be conducting socially-distant pickups. Residents can click here to learn more or fill out the form.
