Councilwoman Crystal Feliciano Convenes City and Housing Authority Leadership to Address Safety and Resource Needs for Residents
TRENTON, NJ — Councilwoman At -Large Crystal Feliciano has created a coordinated effort with the Trenton Housing Authority and City of Trenton Administration to address ongoing concerns related to violence, safety, and access to critical resources for residents within the authority.
This initiative was prompted by Councilwoman Feliciano’s recent visit to Josephson Senior Apartments, where she met directly with residents and heard firsthand about recent safety concerns, service gaps, and the urgent need for more consistent support. Following that visit, Councilwoman Feliciano attended a Trenton Housing Authority meeting on March 11, 2026, where these concerns, along with others, were further highlighted.
In response, Councilwoman Feliciano convened key stakeholders for a working session at City Hall. The first meeting took place on March 23rd and attendees included the Assistant Business Administrator, the Police Director and his Chief of Staff, and the Executive Director of the Trenton Housing Authority, along with members of his leadership team. As a result of the meeting, it was decided that the group would establish quarterly meetings to discuss issues and possible solutions to address resident concerns throughout the authority.
“This is about accountability and responsiveness,” said Councilwoman Feliciano. “When our seniors and other residents speak, we must listen and, more importantly, we must act. What I heard at Josephson Senior Apartments and the Trenton Authority meeting was not just concern, but a call for coordinated leadership and real solutions. The authority is doing the best that they can with the resources available, but they need additional support as the meeting revealed.”
The first quarterly meeting of the group was held on April 8th and included the City Business Administrator, Asst. Business Administrator, the Police Director, leadership from the Trenton Housing Authority, leadership from the Trenton Community Street Team, leadership from Isles, and a representative from the Prosecutor’s Office.
Councilwoman Feliciano emphasized that this is only the beginning of a sustained effort to improve the quality of life for residents across Trenton’s public housing communities.
“Residents throughout the city deserve to feel safe, supported, and heard not sometimes, but all the time,” she added. “This collaboration ensures that we are not operating in silos but instead working together with urgency and intention to deliver meaningful change. These issues have been ongoing, and with the recent shootings that have taken place within the area of Donnelly Homes, this meeting was timely and much needed.”
Positives from the meeting included the Trenton Police Department informing the group that they are creating a plan to increase police presence during the hours of concern at the authority; the THA presented the idea of possibly co-leading grant opportunities with Isles to secure more resources to address areas of concern; and, there was a great discussion of possible operational adjustments on the part of THA to help mitigate onsite problems that are within their control.
Councilwoman Feliciano remains committed to continuing engagement with residents and stakeholders to ensure that progress is both measurable and transparent. “As a Councilwoman in the City of Trenton, it has been and remains my goal within my capacity to help the people in the city, and I will continue to give my absolute best to do so.”
