CUSTIS SAYS CARSTARPHEN WILL GIVE AWAY CITY CONTROL JUST LIKE HE DID ON MUNICIPAL FINANCES

Says Councilman Is Party Bosses Sock Puppet

(CAMDEN, NJ) – Mayoral candidate Elton Custis today railed against mayoral candidate and Councilman Vic Carstarphen for voting to give away control of Camden’s finances to county government, warning the public that he will do the same with overall control of city government.

“Vic Carstarphen is going to give away the store if elected,” said Elton Custis, a member of the Camden City School District Advisory Board. “His vote in March to hand over the city’s finances to the county is a pre-game warm up of what’s to come.”

On March 9, 2021, Carstarphen voted with four of his colleges to provide the county the opportunity to study and take over the city’s finances.

“Would you hand your checkbook over to your neighbor to manage?” said Custis. “Not likely. Unfortunately, Councilman Carstarphen is a sock puppet who only serves the party bosses, not the residents of Camden.”

Carstarphen has refused to participate in a series of debates and forums scheduled in the community, including the most recent forum sponsored by VietLead, a non-profit civic engagement organization.

“Camden residents are sick and tired of being sick and tired of the political games being played in our city,” said Custis. “We are not pawns, Camden is not a chess board, and I certainly ain’t playing.”
