Wayne, NJ – In an emphatic declaration of support, the Dominican American Elected and Appointed
Officials Caucus of NJ (DAEOC NJ) celebrated Passaic County, Sheriff Richard Berdnik’s decision to
promote former Paterson Police Detective Humberto Cuadrado to Undersheriff, in a ceremony
attended by the NJ Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie and State Senator Nellie Pou,
among other elected and law enforcement officials.
“This is a good day for the people of Passaic County, Undersheriff Cuadrado is among the very best
that law enforcement has to offer,” said statewide DAEOC Chairman Manuel Segura. “Service is not a
job to Cuadrado, it’s a way of life.” Vice Chairman Rey Martinez added, “from Humberto’s military
days, to solving major crimes partnering with the FBI and other law enforcement entities, to
serving as the department’s national and local Spanish media spokes-person, he has
dedicated his life to ensuring the safety and well-being of those around him. He has become, not
only a leader in the Latino community or Passaic County, but a compassionate, principled and
powerful leader in the State of New Jersey.”
Cuadrado founded and served as President of the Paterson Hispanic Police Association, highlighting
and empowering police officers, raising funds dedicated to worthwhile causes, and endorsing many
federal, state and local elected officials that prioritize the community’s needs. He has been
recognized by the US Department of Justice for solving major crimes among other law enforcement
agencies. These days, he serves on numerous boards and commissions, including the Passaic County
Youth Services Commission, on the board of directors of the Hispanic Multi-Purpose Service Center
and the Blue Knights NJ Chapter XIII, Advisor to DAEOC NJ, among others. He is also a NJ Certified
Police Instructor at the Passaic County Police Academy, were he focuses on training new recruits.
Other notable attendees in a socially distant promotional ceremony following COVID 19 protocol, at
PCTI, were Passaic County Commissioner Sandi Lazzara, County Clerk Danielle Ireland, Surrogate
Bernice Toledo, Administrator Anthony Denova, local mayors, council members and chiefs of police
from local municipalities, including Paterson. Among those who sent their congratulations, as he
was unable to attend, was long-time friend Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr.
Cuadrado was joined by his wife, Carol, their children and other family members. Cuadrado was one
of over a dozen promotions in today’s ceremony that included Sheriff’s officers, Deputy Warden and
a Police Corrections Warden.
