Darryl Godfrey Launches Campaign to Represent New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District

Renowned Economic Development Expert, Experienced Business Leader Files 815 Nominating Petition Signatures

NEWARK, NJ — Darryl Godfrey filed 815 nominating petition signatures today, officially marking the beginning of his campaign to represent the people of New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District. A renowned economic development expert and successful entrepreneur with a record of spurring investment and job creation in urban communities, Godfrey is running to bring new leadership and a fresh perspective to the district while honoring the enduring legacy of the Payne family. Godfrey’s 815 petition signatures is over four times the required total and represents a key early indicator of his campaign’s organizing prowess and capability.

“This is a moment of tremendous uncertainty in the 10th Congressional District, as well as in our nation as a whole, and I believe that it is critically important for accomplished leaders with real experience and skills to step forward and do their part to serve the greater good,” said Godfrey, who currently works as the Chief Operating Officer of the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority. “I’ve devoted my professional life to helping urban communities thrive by leveraging both private and public sector resources, and I know that with my experience and perspective I can deliver real progress to Essex, Union and Hudson counties. I look forward to meeting with residents from throughout the district and sharing my vision for how we can build stronger, more affordable communities that support all of our hopes and dreams.”

With a robust personal network of successful business leaders, Darryl intends to raise significant funds for his campaign that will allow him to communicate his message to likely Democratic Primary voters and introduce himself as the candidate best positioned to provide the representation they deserve in Washington. He plans to begin his campaign with a listening tour throughout the 10th District where he will be able to meet with residents and small business owners to hear their concerns and learn about their priorities.

A seasoned finance and community development professional, Darryl Godfrey serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority (NJRA), a multi-million dollar independent financing authority created by the State of New Jersey to transform urban communities through direct investment and technical support. Before joining NJRA, Darryl served alongside then-Mayor Cory Booker as the Executive Vice President of Brick City Development Corporation (BCDC), an autonomous community development entity created by the City of Newark to spur economic development. Darryl began his career in banking where he spent over 15 years working for some of the nation’s largest financial institutions, and he currently owns multiple small businesses located in the 10th District.
