Democratic Candidates for Morris County Commissioner Propose Creation of an Office of LGBTQ Affairs

MOUNTAIN LAKES, N.J. – In honor of the beginning of Pride Month 2021, the presumptive Democratic nominees for Morris County Commissioner revealed today their plans to, if elected, create only the second county-level Office of LGBTQ Affairs in New Jersey.

The Office would be housed within the Department of Human Services, with a dedicated Coordinator that would report to the Director of Human Services, and would be modeled after the office of the same name created in Union County in 2018.

Our LGBTQ community is, well, amazing; and they deserve a county government that respects, encourages, and supports them, said T.C. McCourt. This office would do that – and put vital resources at the disposal of the county’s resident LGBTQ population and those that visit here.

T.C. McCourt and A.J. Oliver would become the first-ever openly LGBTQ candidates elected to countywide office in the history of Morris County.

We know that with our election would come a great deal of responsibility to our community, said Oliver. Union County has given us an outstanding model that I believe would serve Morris County’s LGBTQ population incredibly well.

The Morris County Office of LGBTQ Affairs would focus on and study the issues that affect our county’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals, with particular attention paid to the plight of our LGBTQ youth.

Our entire campaign is about making Morris County stronger, and this is just one more thing that will do that, said Dina Mikulka, McCourt and Oliver’s running mate. T.C. and A.J.’s historic election should and would bring about an increased focus on LGBTQ issues in Morris County – something that is long overdue – and I would be standing right beside them in that pursuit.”
