Democratic Caucus Makes Official Pascrell’s Elevation to Tax Oversight Chairman

Succeeds legendary Congressman John Lewis (D-GA)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House Democratic Caucus today ratified the decision of the House Ways and Means Committee to name U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) the chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight, succeeding the late Rep. John Lewis.

“I am humbled beyond words by the confidence of my colleagues to take on this responsibility,” said Chairman Pascrell. “It is impossible to fill John Lewis’s shoes and I will only do my best to make my friend proud.

“The revelation this week that Donald Trump has spent a lifetime defrauding the government adds urgency to our work. Our federal tax system has been abused by those with connections and means cheating our system like Donald Trump for too long. Working alongside my colleagues, I will look under every rock to find and combat the criminality of Trump’s regime and other tax abuses. We will be relentless in providing oversight and conducting investigations to improve peoples’ lives and show the vital work we can do for regular Americans.”
