Democratic Commissioner Candidates Barnes and Paura Call on Commissioner Vicari to Resign

The Democratic Candidates for County Commissioner, Roxanne Barnes and Catherine Paura, have called on the Republican members of the Ocean County Commissioners Board to join with them in asking for the resignation of Commissioner Joseph Vicari. Vicari is the plantiff in a recently revealed lawsuit that alleges decades of sexual harrassment of an employee. This is the second time Vicari has been accused of sexual misconduct. In 2014, the County Commissioners paid out $550,000 to settle another lawsuit alleging sexual harassment.

“In light of these new allegations of sexual harassment and assault, it is imperative that Commissioner Vicari step down. This lawsuit details more than a dozen incidents, which show a pattern of predatory and intimidating behavior from Commissioner Vicari.” said Candidate Roxanne Barnes.

The lawsuit paints a picture of a relentless campaign of sexual harrassment and retaliation. The plaintiff alleges that she was ignored by HR and denied promotions when she spoke up.  Commissioners Virginia Haines and Barbara Jo Crea are also named in the lawsuit, because they allegedly turned a bllnd eye to the abuse and blocked a transfer the victim requested.

“Although Commissioner Vicari is named as the primary perpetrator here, numerous individuals chose to either look the other way or retaliate. This lawsuit, along with the current FBI investigation into questionable hiring practices, show a culture of deep-seated corruption at the Ocean County Board of Commissioners. The only way for the Commissioners to salvage a shred of credibility is to join with us in asking Vicari to step down,” said Candidate Catherine Paura.

Democratic Candidates Barnes and Paura are facing off against Commissioners Virginia Haines and Jack Kelly in November. Catherine Paura is back for a second run at a County Commissioner seat.  Ms. Paura has experience as an entrepreneur, CEO, global marketing executive and movie producer, as well as an advocate for victims of rape. Roxanne Barnes is a political newcomer who is a businesswoman, pastor of 35, years and professional substance abuse and anger management counselor.
